PN vs Class Pressure Rating: Simple Explanation for Buyers
One of the most common points of confusion when sourcing valves internationally is the difference between PN (European) and Class (American) pressure ratings. Mixing them up can lead to valves that are unsafe or mismatched for your system.
Basic Equivalents
| European PN | American Class | Max Pressure (bar) |
|---|---|---|
| PN10 | — | 10 bar |
| PN16 | Class150 | 16 bar |
| PN40 | Class300 | 40 bar |
Important Note
Remember that pressure ratings change with temperature. A Class150 valve rated for 16 bar at room temperature may only hold 10 bar at 200°C. Always specify your operating temperature when requesting a quote to ensure the valve is suitable for your service conditions.
